About Branch 059
Mission
Our mission is to serve Veterans, including serving military and RCMP members and their families, to promote Remembrance, and to serve our communities and our country.
We serve Veterans by advocating for the care and benefits for all who served Canada. Our Service Officer provides confidential assistance for Veterans to learn about and access VAC programs and benefits.
The NS / NU Command provides several Veterans Outreach Programs which are delivered through programming, social services, and peer support.
We promote Remembrance through our Remembrance Day service, the annual Poppy Campaign, with our museum, and with our Poster and Essay literary contest and local schools.
Serving Our Community
We serve our community in several ways. We sponsor the local Army Cadets. We give financial support to the Antigonish Senior’s CARE Van. We donate scholarships and bursaries to local high schools.
Our building is now a designated warming / cooling center and a designated Emergency Shelter for the Town and County of Antigonish.
Our spacious and modern conference rooms are available for rent. A wide variety of groups use our space for day and evening bookings including businesses, government agencies, conventions, fund-raisers, social events and more. See our rental page for more information.
We are partnered in our building with the Canadian Association for Community Living. CACL Antigonish is proud to be a dual service provider offering inclusive programming and residential support for persons with intellectual and physical disabilities.
With our partnership with CACL our building is thriving! We have been described as a “powerhouse” in Antigonish. We continually strive to improve our facilities in order to make our Legion a welcoming, accessible, modern, and inclusive place for all.

Ceremony & Symbolism
The Last Post
A bugler plays The Last Post, signifying the calling home of the spirits of the Fallen to rest. The Last Post originally was played to signal the camp was secured for the night. It was also played to call out to wounded or separated soldiers at the end of a battle, to guide them home to safety and rest.
Two Minutes of Silence
At the stroke of eleven, Canadians across the country join to collectively pause for two minutes of silence to honour, thank, and remember the Fallen. This sacred moment also symbolizes Canada standing sentry in silence as the Fallen rest.
